Clemson Basketball Gets Strange Win in Italy

The Clemson men’s basketball team picked up a crazy win in its first game of its Italy Tour on Wednesday.

The Tigers beat BC Silute of Lithuania 40-35 at the Stella Azzurra Sport Complex in Rome, Italy. The game was called by the officials with 8:23 remaining in the fourth period.

The officials called the game because there was too much sweat on the floor, as the Stella Azzurra Sport Complex was extremely humid. Officials were concerned for the players’ safety.

Clemson head coach Brad Brownell spoke about the conditions in the arena during the broadcast on 105.5 FM The Roar in the Upstate of South Carolina. The Roar is the Flagship Station for the Clemson Athletic Network.

Brownell provided color commentary during the BC Silute game in Rome. He allowed his assistant coaches to coach the game.

Clemson’s head coach was warning his players of the wet spots on the floor during the second half of the broadcast.

Cole Certa led the Tigers with 10 points. Liutauras Lelevicius finished with nine, while Dallas Thomas added seven and Chase Thompson added six. David Fuchs, Blake Davidson and Trent Steinour all found the scoring column for the Tigers.

Thompson led Clemson with eight rebounds, while Thomas and Davidson each added five.

Clemson played without Zac Foster, Ace Buckner, Carter Welling and Dylan Faulkner, who are all out due to injury.

The Tigers are in Italy as part of its overseas tour that the NCAA allows teams to do once every four years. Clemson basketball also went to Itay in the summer of 2013.

Clemson wrapped up its third day of a 10-day tour of Italy, visiting Rome, Florence and Como while playing three exhibition games – one in each city. The Tigers visited The Colosseum in Rome on Wednesday before their game against BC Silute.

This is the Tigers’ fourth overseas trip under Brownell (2013 Italy, 2017 Spain, 2022 France, 2026 Italy), not including the team’s participation in the 2019 World University Games that saw Clemson claim a gold medal.

Clemson will play Italy’s Pro Camp team in Florence, Italy on Saturday. The game is expected to tip off at 12:30 p.m., EST.
