CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Chattanooga ran for 310 yards, while running backs Kevin Lalin and Jordan Wyche both went over 100 yards on the ground with a touchdown each, as the Mocs rolled to an easy 41-7 victory over Wofford on Saturday at Finely Stadium.
Chattanooga scored 31 points in the second quarter, including a 26-yard interception return for a TD by Jaden Nelson.
“I am really disappointed,” said Wofford head coach Shawn Watson. “We didn’t play a clean game at all. As coaches, we have to take the first level of responsibility, and it starts with me. We have got to have guys ready to play. We’ve got to look at that real hard, and we’ve got to get it fixed.
“Penalties hurt us offensively and then defensively. Both sides of the ball had some penalties that kept drives alive. So, we’ve got to get that cleaned up. We’ve got to get our turnovers cleaned up. We have way too many turnovers for this point in the season, so we need to get that fixed as well.”
The loss dropped the Terriers to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon, while UTC improved to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the conference.
The Terriers were led by Ethan Drumm’s 144 yards on 7-of-14 passing, while Terrence Honeywood had four receptions for 113 yards and a touchdown. The TD was a 75-yard connection from Drumm, which tied the game 7-7 briefly in the second quarter.
Lain, who ran for 110 yards, scored on a 2-yard run less than three minutes later to put Chattanooga back in front to stay. Wyche ran for 122 yards and scored the game’s first TD, which was also a 2-yard run.
Wofford had 250 total yards on offense, with 158 coming from the air. The Mocs tallied 356 yards, with 310 of those coming on the ground.
